Major in the 17th South Carolina Infantry C.S.A. during the WarBetween the States and was assistant Surgeon in Maryland & Virginia.Was wounded in the
Second Battle of Manasas, at the end of the war he emigrated toVenezuela to escape the devistation of his homeland from the UnionArmy. Shortly afterwards he returned home and practice at New Road, inColleton County, S.C. Residing at Eddingsville Beach near Edisto,Island, S.C. ( ref Col. 1858 publishes with Dr. Samuel Logan outlines of a Course of Lectureson the Principles and Practice of Surgery by Dr. E. Geddings.
1861-1865 Served in Confederacy as an assistant Surgeon attached toLongstreet's Division ( documents in South Carolina Library, U.S.C.)
April 1, 1969 As a subordinate agent to the American English andVenezuela;
had enrolled thirty prospective immigrants and hopes to enroll a onehundred more.

Several papers written by Dr. Thomas Smith Waring in the CharlestonMedical Journal gave the adress as Eddingsville, possibly his summerhome.
