For the first time in twenty-one years, I’m a college student. Today I finished registering and paying for COSC 1315 (Introduction to Programming) at Austin Community College. I have to admit that I don’t have any burning desire to learn to program, but when I look at the employment want ads, I keep seeing lots more requests for sysadmins who are also DBAs or programmers than I do system admins alone—so if I expect to have work in IT any time soon, I figure I need to start now, because I should have started more than a year ago.
