A badly-needed interlude

This afternoon I was sitting here glooming over having no money and no job and no prospects, when the phone rang and it was Butterfly on the other end.  She’s been in town for a few days going to an Irish-language workshop, and is staying on another several to visit her friends from the days she lived in Austin.  Gods bless her, she drove in from Wimberley and took me to a late lunch at Mother’s Cafe, after which we went to Things Celtic so she could buy herself a better Irish dictionary than the one she had, to Amy’s for ice cream (you can’t get Amy’s in New Mexico), and then home, where we curled up together and just snuggled for an hour, talking and half-dozing.  That was exactly what I needed today, to take away the worst of my gloom.  Maybe tomorrow it’ll be back, but for now I feel ever so much better.
