Monday’s mail brought a packet from IRS with the papers to be filled out before they’re ready to take me on as seasonal help. Orientation and processing, says the cover letter, will be on January second. I have no idea yet what they’ll put me to doing—tax return examination or data entry—but whatever it is, it’s at GS-4 grade and it should mean a few months’ worth of steady work, which is more than I’ve had in nearly a year.
In the meantime, I’m also waiting to hear back on some contract and contract-to-hire IT jobs that look like they might come together in January, and from our friend/editor at Holt, Rinehart & Winston about more freelance writing work for her middle-school literature textbook project. She says it’s still on track, but nobody’s hurrying to do much about it before the new year—which isn’t surprising; nobody hurries to do much about anything in mid-December, unless the project has a December 31st deadline.
