Another assassination attempt

This afternoon I dug out the chain saw and again tried to kill The Sycamore That Would Not Die™.  I cut the stump vertically into quarters, then cut each quarter off as close to the ground as I could manage.  Perhaps this will discourage the damned thing from trying to come back yet again, although I fear I’ll still have another year’s worth of suckers, thrown up by the roots, to fight.  Still, the tree’s certainly Not At All Well by now, which is more than I managed a year ago.

The pecan shelling continues at a snail’s pace; shelling out these little-bitty hard-shelled Bridges natives takes absolutely forever, you have to fight your way into each one, and as often as not you end up by breaking the nutmeat into pieces to get it out, rather than the nice, pretty halves I can get from the Mahans and Burketts.  The tip of my right thumb is developing a callus from breaking open shells, and I have to scrub to get the dust out from under my nails.

About Marchbanks

I'm an elderly tech analyst, living in Texas but not of it, a cantankerous and venerable curmudgeon. I'm yer SOB grandpa who has NO time for snot-nosed, bad-mannered twerps.
