Because this morning was cool again (maybe what passes for Fall in Texas is gonna arrive after all), after breakfast I went back over to pull some more nails and staples out of the light pole (see yesterday’s entry). I worked for about an hour, and got another pound or so of junk before I bent over to pick up a nail I’d dropped—and split the front seam in my shorts, all the way from the bottom of the fly to the crotch!
This is more of an Issue than it might seem at first, because as usual I wasn’t wearing anything under my shorts, so Everything I Had was hanging out, right there in front of God and everybody on the street corner. The only thing saving me was that I was wearing a carpenter’s apron, to have someplace to put my pliers and the hardware I’d removed, and I was able to adjust it to hang a little lower in the front so the Naughty Bits didn’t show.
And all I can say about the rest is that it’s a good thing my house is only three blocks from where I was, and I could cut across neighborhood back streets and get home to change clothes without meeting anyone. (Well, I did meet one person, but I was almost past her by the time she got out of her car, and I don’t think she realized anything was amiss, which is a mercy.)
