And instead of going out to do yardwork this morning, I went over and finished pulling the staples and nails out of the power pole at 45th and Duval. A little over two hours’ work got everything pulled out as high above my head as I could reach, something close to eight feet. I did have to leave behind a few nails that were so firmly driven I couldn’t get under them with the claw hammer or a screwdriver blade; instead, I counter-sunk them into the pole to provide a smoother surface plane. The best I can tell, I pulled out something between three and four pounds of hardware total, and put in about six man-hours. Doing the job this way may not be very efficient, but I don’t know any better one.
Maybe I’ll tackle one of the posts at 43rd and Duval next week; that corner’s just as heavily trafficked and those posts are used just as much for the putting up of signs, so they’ll be as bad if not worse.
But first . . . I have got to make myself go replace the pull chain on the light in T’s bathroom. There are no windows in there, so with the lights stuck “off” it’s as dark as the inside of a billygoat when you shut the doors! (Yes, she has two doors in her bathroom; it’s built in tandem with the third bathroom, and you have to walk through both of them to get back to M’s bedroom. Yes, it’s a remuddle done on purpose by a previous owner because this house used to be a college-student rental property. Yes, it’s more than strange. We live with it.)
