I think I am going to have health insurance

if only I can afford it.  My new manager asked me this afternoon if I was interested in it; I replied that I absolutely was, as I’ve been without since the summer of 2001 when I couldn’t keep up my COBRA payments.  I told him also that I’d asked about eligibility last year, but found that I wasn’t eligible because I’d have to have at least a six-month work season in order to qualify, and last year my season was only five and a half, so was I going to work six months this year so I’d qualify?  He answered that we’d make it work somehow.  So now I’m waiting for the packet of information about available coverage to arrive; it’ll probably come along in two weeks or so.

The question came up because the guy in the cube next me asked about insurance; his blood pressure is quite high (180/120 this afternoon) and he hasn’t any insurance either.  (The on-site nurse was advising him to go to the emergency room to get some kind of treatment right away, since he moved to town recently and doesn’t have a regular doctor, besides having no health insurance.)  Fortunately my diuretic is keeping my BP under good control; I measured at 130/82 when I went to give blood this afternoon (fifty-second pint).

Headquarters issued a black Siamese infant.  Fnord.
