Two no-shows, and one hold-over came who had no-showed for a previous testing session, so I actually tested thirteen people. Despite that, I got through in eighty minutes, which is quick going. On the eval sheets the candidates fill out at the end of the session, several said the location wasn’t too convenient (I agree, but finding space I can use that we don’t have to pay for is a problem). Still, they all indicated my handling of the session was good to excellent, which is nice to know.
I need to compile ten minutes or so of “stuff about Mensa” that I can use as a warm-up act before test time. I always end up with everyone sitting and staring at me, for lack of anything else to do, and ten or fifteen minutes’ worth of amusing factoids would be very nice to have in the can. As it was, I had to ad-lib, and that makes me feel nervous and unsure, as though I’m merely babbling to fill a silence—which in some ways I am.
