making cover art for a raft of CDs I ripped from my LP collection.
“Making cover art,” in this context, means using my flatbed scanner to make multiple-pass scans of the original LP jackets, Paint Shop Pro-ing them together into front covers, back covers, and spine strips while trying to minimize the inevitable distortions that come from having to scan a thirteen-inch square album cover in sections on an 11×14 scanner bed, cropping and reducing to jewel case size, and saving to JPGs until I can get to Office Depot and buy new ink cartridges for the printer so I can print ’em up.
Not that I intend to do so, but if I were to rip every LP I have to CD, that would be . . . 75 LPs to the foot times eight feet, subtract a little for slack . . . six hundred CDs, or thereabout. Just to migrate my LP collection.
The tedium, it burns.
