There is something fundamentally off

about having to pay for one’s own birthday dinner.

And finding the first-choice restaurant closed without explanation.  (At least there was a good second choice/substitute very near by.)

And then coming home only to have everyone else collapse into bed at once, leaving me sitting up alone.
