This must not is August

because the rain is absolutely pissing down outside.  You do not get pissing-down rain in a Texan August, except in quick-moving thunderstorms.  Well, we got the thunder part of it right—thunder grumbled all round us for most of the afternoon.  But the really raining part of it began after eight o’clock, and is continuing, more than an hour later.

We’ve been having rain like this all week, after last week’s heat wave that sent temperatures in Austin up to 110° F. (43° C.).  This week, high temps have barely cracked ninety.  This is strange weather beyond even Texan-normal weather strangeness.
