I’m so civically responsible, it hurts

Not only did I get out and vote (all right, I voted early week before last) but I remembered to give blood, on my first day of eligibility since my last donation!  I was rummaging through my wallet yesterday, and found the reminder card from the blood bank, so I ran over there this morning and gave (pint #50).

Travis County went to using Hart InterCivic’s eSlate voting system for early voting this time, and I understand they’re converting the whole voting system to eSlate for the next election; this cycle they couldn’t get enough units in place and working in time for the general election, so they have to use OCR paper ballots one more time.  I found the eSlate easy to understand and use, and as long as we don’t scare off older voters with the idea of “voting by computer” it should work out all right.  (All right, I didn’t give it a real workout since I voted a straight Democratic ticket—yes, I’m retro enough that I still vote straight-ticket; I don’t feel any of the so-called “third parties” are viable and I generally disagree with their basic premises anyhow, and the last time I was damfool enough to support a Republican, I got Tricky Dick’s second term.  Fortunately, I was still too young to vote in ’72, so the damage was minimized.)
