I hadn’t intended to make Hamburger Flambé this evening

But that was how it ended up.  I was cooking a hamburger patty for M’s supper when the pan (a #3 cast-iron skillet, about five inches in diameter—and that’s a small skillet, for those of you who don’t cook) suddenly burst into flames with a WHOOF.  I guess that a grease spatter popped out and caught fire from the burner.  Fortunately, I had a pan lid lying nearby, so I dropped it on top of the fire and smothered it at once; I didn’t even ruin the hamburger, which M ate a bit later.
