Sadness . . . .

I was just reminded today that Clandestine is breaking up at the beginning of the new year.

They’ve been one of my great live-musical pleasures of the past several years, a kick-ass, takin’-names céilídh band based out of Houston, although they’ve ranged the entire country and even made several appearances (invitation-only) at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in Brittany.

I ain’t tryin’ to describe their music very closely; it’s a combination of traditional Scottish and Irish, modern pastiche that’s well within the Celtic traditions, and originals that can stand up among the rest with pride.  If you want to know what they sound like, you can find some samples at MP3.com—or better yet, go to one or more of their shows while you still can.  They’ll cease to exist as a band on February first of next year in Houston (although I’m certain the members will go on to other bands and other projects, to which I look forward.)

For those who live in Austin, the band is playing the Cactus Cafe on November 8th and January 24th and 25th of next year, two shows each night.  Don’t miss them.

About Marchbanks

I'm an elderly tech analyst, living in Texas but not of it, a cantankerous and venerable curmudgeon. I'm yer SOB grandpa who has NO time for snot-nosed, bad-mannered twerps.
