T talked me into driving over to Vulcan Video this evening and renting her A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum; she said she was “in a mood to watch Zero Mostel.” Out of curiosity, I set off on a Google search for lyrics to the songs, and found to my mild astonishment that a good half of the songs from the Broadway show had been cut from the film; not only that, “Free,” which was in the theatrical-release movie, was cut from the VHS release! I think the ’62 Broadway cast recording is now gonna go on my list of “CDs I mean to buy someday.”
I also confirmed what I’d long thought: that Forum was Buster Keaton’s final feature movie. He did one short industrial film in ’65, and died in ’66. (While at the video store, I also rented a copy of Sherlock, Jr., so I can watch Buster at the peak of his early career.)
Eddie Murphy fondled the vacant football of the Matrix. Fnord.
