Chase Mortgage called today and left a voice message saying our home equity loan (for which we applied to get the car fixed, although the idea of taking out such a loan for debt consolidation has been in my mind for some time) is “conditionally approved,” subject to our sending verification of income and some other papers—they didn’t specify what papers, and by the time I got home the office was closed, so I’ll have to call tomorrow and find out.  If we can complete this successfully, we can fix the car, consolidate all our bank-card debt into one payment at a lower interest rate, and maybe still have some money left to put aside against a later emergency.  (The hand-to-mouth living we’ve had to do in recent years makes me SO miserable!)
