Potato cultivation

So I have this compost bin, four feet tall, six wide and three deep, and made of goat wire.  I put it up last fall, flang in as many leaves as I could make fit (and with six major trees, several big shrubs, and a stand of bamboo on the lot, I have a lot of leaves), and went away to let it all rot.  I also pitch in kitchen vegetable scraps and fruits and vegetables that rot before I can get ’em used up.

The other month, I had some baking potatoes that sat around too long and began to sprout and rot, so I took and pitched them in the bin and forgot about ’em.  Last week, I noticed something that looked like a weed growing from one corner of the bin.  When I investigated, I found that one of the potatoes had sprouted in earnest, and I now have a potato vine.  I think I’ll let it go, and see what kind of crop I might make of it.  It doesn’t seem to be doing any harm where it is.

The cactus from Uranus will go to Tralfamadore.  Fnord.
