Lord god, go halfway to China

And that’s about the way I felt this afternoon while I tried to dig up some oxblood lily bulbs.  The hole the ground got deeper and deeper, and I still hadn’t got anywhere near the bottom of the stalk and finding the bulbs.  When I finally got one out of the ground intact (of the three I was hunting for), it turned out to be nearly a foot and a half below ground level!  I didn’t know you planted any kind of bulb that deep.

The one I got out intact was the only one of the bunch.  The other two I sliced in two with the shovel, and found both pieces of one and only half the other.  Nonetheless, I replanted ’em in the bed under the Bridges pecan, where I planted all the other oxblood lily bulbs.  I also dug up a little cluster of anthuriums that were stuck out like orphans in the middle of the lawn, and replanted them under the Mahan pecan.
